B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: New World #4

Comic book, 2010

So, the three B.P.R.D. mini-series before this were one big story that dealt with the overarching plot of the entire B.P.R.D. series . The mini-series before that had some cliffhangers concerning some of the smaller, more character related plot threads. Now that the overarching plot stuff is over, we’re jumping right back into the smaller stuff. While I vastly prefer the smaller stuff, the narrative convenience of that is a little jarring. Like the first issue of New World should have had a narration box stating “We now rejoin our broadcast, already in progress” in the first panel. Also, Guy Davis’ art is getting looser and lighter, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. On the other hand, there’s a box on the inside front cover that says “Issue 73 in a series” or something like that, which means this is the seventy-third issue of B.P.R.D. And Guy Davis couldn’t have not drawn more than fifteen of those issues, and Arcudi couldn’t have not written more than twenty, which begs the question; is B.P.R.D. going to go down in history as one of the great long comics runs with a consistent creative team? It seems inevitable at this point. 3.5
